Studio Co-Working Sessions
I’ve been experimenting with working alongside people online to help me commit to my creative practice. I’m opening up these co-working sessions to other people who might find some friendly company motivating.
TLDR: Every Monday I’m running an online creative co-working session, from 19:30-21:30h UK time. If you want to join in, add the invite to your calendar.
What’s this all about?
For the last month or so I’ve been experimenting with running ‘Studio Co-working’ sessions. I’ve been doing online co-working ‘pomodoros’ with friends for years, and find them really helpful to get me started, and keep me on track. Even through a screen, ‘body doubling’ is like magic, if you tend towards distraction (as I do*).
The Studio Co-Working session is a two hour commitment in the diary every Monday evening, 19:30–21:30 (London Time, GMT/BST) , to work on your own creative thing alongside other people.
You show up on Zoom, say what you’re doing, then get on with it. Cameras on, but mics can be on mute (although some of find the rustle of people being industrious really soothing). We work in 25min bursts, with 5min breaks for tea, a wee, or staring into space as needed. There’s time at the end for a chat, or to review work, or share - but it’s not compulsory. I’ve often got into the zone by that stage, and tend to continue for another hour or so.
You don’t need to be doing a big high-minded art project. People have worked on drawing prompts, done van conversions, fired enamel, had long-overdue studio tidies - and admin counts too, if that’s what you need to get done. Last week I spent the time drawing tomatoes, to illustrate this post.
How to join in
Be ready to go for a 19:30h (London time, GMT/BST) start every Monday night, on Zoom.
How it runs:
Set our intentions together - what will you be working on this evening? 5min
Make some ART. (NO CHAT! ONLY ART!) 25min
A break: cuppa, wee, quick check in, stare in to space… (This is a Pomodoro break) 05min
Repeat:
Art! 25min
Faff 05min
Art! 25min
Faff 05min
Art! 25min
How did it go? Share our progress and deliver lovely encouraging pats on the head to each other.
If having a slot in your diary to focus on getting art done sounds useful to you, you add the sessions to your calendar:
Or you can DM me on instagram, or email me and I’ll share the zoom link with you.
Don’t worry, it’s not some sign up for hard sell emails about art-maxxxing yr studio earning potential strategy. It’s just me, being a bit shambolic. I won’t use your details for anything other than organising these sessions.
See you Monday?
