Classes, Workshops, Mentoring and Teaching
I run drawing classes and deliver bespoke creative workshops in both drawing and digital skills. I offer one-to-one mentoring and drawing tuition.
Life Drawing and Portrait Classes
See all upcoming classes
I teach life drawing, portraiture and creative drawing at venues across Kent and Sussex.
My drawing classes are supportive, inclusive, and occasionally very silly. Beginners are welcome, and I start from the belief that drawing is a process, that everyone can draw, and there’s no such thing as a bad drawing: gentle curiosity and a joyful willingness to do things badly are encouraged.
I am running four weeks of tutored life drawing classes in Tyler Hill, just outside Canterbury. The classes run on Fridays, from 16th May 2025. Check the upcoming classes page for more detail, or buy tickets.
I no longer teach through Kent Adult Education.
I will be running more regular private classes soon, both with Rock Paper Scissors in Canterbury and at other venues. If you want to hear about courses, it’s best to follow me on Instagram, or subscribe to my newsletter.
Charcoal Making and Drawing in Walderchain Wood
I am working with the brilliant woodsman and environmentalist Mark Saich to run charcoal making and drawing days in Walderchain Wood, near Canterbury.
You’ll learn to make your own charcoal over an open fire, using local materials, then spend time drawing in the managed woodland space.
There are upcoming dates in July and September 2025.
One-to-One Mentoring
Alongside my art practice, I’ve been teaching drawing for four years, have had several decades of experience producing and managing creative projects, and have expertise in building digital products. I also have experience of writing and reviewing funding applications.
If you’re a creative practitioner who might want some one-to-one drawing tuition, need help turning ideas in to structured project plans, or tackling digital strategy and projects at any scale from a personal website to a full VR app, I can help you clarify your thinking and process, and mentor you through production.
I’m always happy to have a coffee and chat together to work out where you’re stuck, what you need, and if I can help. Get in touch!
Digital Production Skills Training
I co-designed and ran the National Film and Television School’s first postgraduate diploma in Creative Producing for digital platforms, and designed and delivered courses in digItal problem-solving skills for FutureLearn and the University of Leeds. I’ve produced BAFTA, Emmy and RTS Award-winning digital projects.
I run workshops introducing digital producing and project management, user-centred design for digital projects, prototyping skills, and digital strategy for clients across the creative and GLAM sectors, including the Arts Marketing Association, Tŷ Pawb, The Gulbenkian Arts Centre, the Pervasive Media Studio and BBC Academy.
I can also offer one-to-one training or help with planning digital projects. I’ve worked with individual artists like Chloe Briggs of Drawing is Free to help them think though websites, social media and patreon campaigns, and have also worked with big organisations on projects like the V&A’s Mused to deliver audience focused digital propositions.
Creative Workshops
I design and run in-person and online workshops for corporate clients including LEGO Digital Consumer Engagement, public festivals like Strangelove at the Turner Contemporary, conferences like MIX2019, and local community groups.
Women Drawing Themselves - a two hour class which will talk you through the history of self-portraits by women, and encourage you to draw your own versions of the artworks. You’ll finish off by sitting for portraits by the group.
Drawing for People who Think They Can’t Draw - an hour of drawing together over zoom, designed to get you over your fear of the blank page and get you enjoying making marks… whilst drawing each other.
AR (Augmented Reality) drawing workshops - using simple technology to draw in 3D on your phone, responding to place and creative prompts, then turning drawings in to shareable stories for social media.
Sharing Joy - using collage and drawing to think about how we could use our digital platforms to spread joy.
Talks and Public Speaking
I have given talks and presentations on what might politely be called an eclectic range of subjects – the main reason I chose to study art was because it gave me the space to be interested in everything. Alongside my regular teaching, talks have included:-
what Rembrandt can teach us about our attitudes to robots;
how the WI might save us during a zombie apocalypse;
the cultural history of the vacuum cleaner;
how to think about the endings of projects;
my experience with documenting a decade of family dementia care and bereavement publicly on social media.
That last one is funnier than it sounds, promise.
If you’d like someone to come and give you some reckons in front of powerpoint, get in touch.
Does any of this sound like you might want to work with me?
