Explore the joys and challenges of capturing everyday objects in this still life drawing class led by an experienced artist.
In this session: Explore how light and shadow bring the drama and depth to a still life drawing. Inspired by Juan Sánchez Cotán ‘bodegónes’ , you’ll make an improvised shadow-box theatre from recycled materials, and experiment with layering, erasing and using masks to create a dramatic charcoal still-life drawing.
Bring:
a small cardboard box – shoebox sized or smaller – that you don’t mind cutting up,
some junk cardboard, paper or packaging from your recycling.
optionally – some natural material like seedheads, fruit, or other small objects you find interesting
For artists of all levels, this is a chance to develop your observational drawing skills, explore tonal drawing, and how shadow and light create form and depth.
Basic materials will be provided and you are also welcome to bring your own.
Tickets also include entry to all the Hasting’s Contemporary exhibitions.
